What are some of the advantages of a steel building?
Among the criteria considered when evaluating steel, or other building materials, are strength, durability and aesthetics. Steel offers these benefits, plus metal buildings are easily expanded to accommodate future growth. How does the cost of metal construction compare with other types of construction?
A number of factors contribute to the overall cost of construction including labor, complexity, and size. Due to the tenacity of steel products, they require less maintenance and have a longer lifespan, resulting in excellent life cycle costs compared to other building materials. In addition, when designed properly and assembled by skilled erectors, the labor time required can be less than conventional materials resulting in shorter erection times and lower labor costs.

What does it mean to call a building “green”?
Green buildings are structures that mitigate the environmental impact during construction, throughout the life of a building, and after its useful life is over. There are several agencies that certify buildings as green. Each has standards that are approved by their governing bodies and published for public review. The US Greenbuild Council (USGBC) is the recognized leader in the certification of green buildings through its LEEDs program. It is a non-governmental, non-profit agency. Points are awarded for various environmental attributes of a construction project. They are tallied and a green building rating is given. Another environmental agency is ENERGY STAR, of the United States Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agencies, promotes ENERGY STAR approved products that mitigate energy usage. Are all of the products sold through NCI affiliate companies considered green build products?
Many of the products offered through NCI’s network of companies have green qualities. Steel is composed of recycled material and is itself recyclable. Our brands offer cool roof paint colors, which are formulated to reflect and emit the heat that might otherwise be absorbed into the facility; the cool colors reduce the need for additional energy that would be used for cooling the building.
Our metal components division offers insulated panels, which are often used by our building manufacturers. These foam panels have higher R-values that provide better insulation values. To learn more about this insulated panel product click here.
